Church Secretary
Sue’s personal and professional life have been so intertwined that it is difficult to separate the two. The daughter of a mill worker, she was raised on a mill village by faithful church members of the Inman Church of God. Sue gave her heart to the Lord at a very young age. However, during her adolescent years, she began to question her faith and her decision for Christ. A loving God allowed her to experience enough heartache, frustrations and struggles that she came to realize the need to fully dedicate herself to Him. Prior to her senior year of high school, Sue rededicated her life to Him, and proceeded to became an honor graduate of Chapman High in 1970. Within two weeks, she was employed in the Accounting Dept. of Bigelow Sanford in Landrum. When their offices moved, she continued to work in accounting at Deering Milliken in Spartanburg.
In July of 1972, Sue’s life changed dramatically when she married Steve Howard and moved to Greer. Church membership was then changed to the Greer Church of God, where she served as Sunday School teacher and then as Children’s Church Director. One year after moving to Greer, with a desire to serve God in her employment, Sue became the Receptionist at the Church of God State Headquarters in Mauldin. While there, she served as assistant to the State Secretary/Treasurer and later became the Home for Children Secretary. It was during this time that a number of people from the Greer church felt the burden to begin a new church in Greer. In 1982, Steve and Sue became members of the North Wade Hampton Church of God (later to become Praise Cathedral). Sue continued to serve as a volunteer Children’s Church Director for this thriving young church.. Sue experienced another change in her life’s direction in June of 1987, when she became the first church secretary for Praise Cathedral. In July of that same year, Steve and Sue became the parents of Sally, a 13 year old girl who had been a resident of the Home for Children. In 1994, Steve and Sue became the proud grandparents of Ben, and in 2007 were blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Jade.
Since 1987, as an employee of Praise Cathedral, Sue has accepted and released various responsibilities as the church continued to see consistent growth. After enjoying a total of 15 years of service as Children’s Church Director, in 1990 Praise Cathedral hired a full time Children’s Pastor. Relinquishing those responsibilities enabled Sue to pursue a college degree as she continued employment in the church office. Six years later, she received a BA degree in psychology from the University of South Carolina — Spartanburg. Today, Sue is serving as Pastor’s Secretary and Membership Secretary. She has found her greatest joy in following God, and in serving Him and His church in whatever capacity He desires.
